My Barbara Bush encounter

We stayed in York, Maine, this summer, in a rented house with my aunt's family and my grandmother. One day, we went to Ogunquit and Perkins Cove for a lobster boat trip. On the lobster trip we learnt that the Bush family (George Bush sen and Barbara Bush in particular) often visit a restaurant in Perkins Cove called Barnacle Billy's, since they own a home in Kennebunkport not far away. Well, we thought we would all eat lunch in George Bush's favorite place, so we did.

We had just finished our lunch, when we overheard the owner of the restaurant inform his head waiter that "the Bushes are coming again". Well, we didn't leave then! We waited, Barbara Bush entered first with her Secret Service bodyguard and got seated at their favorite table outside. I decided I would like to get the autograph of a former First Lady, my sister and younger cousin joined me, and the three of us approached them. My parents told me to first ask the bodyguard whether it was ok. I so did, he thought maybe later, but Barbara said "bring it on!" So we talked to her for quite a while about us visiting the States, how much we like it, and where we came from and live. Barbara was very graceful and nice, and did not only sign her autograph, but added all our names and a nice message to the card too!

Afterwards the former President himself, George Bush sen, arrived on his speedboat, and we got to see him and briefly say hello to him too. It's a great memory of our trip to Maine!

Here's the card Barbara Bush signed:
